Just for Today

Even though I teach this concept to all my clients, I often have to remind myself to practice what I preach. It is easy to dive into the ‘drama’ of life, not only my own but also that of others’.
Try to take a step back and see the situation/drama like a play on a stage.
The control that we DO have in even the most helpless of situations is that we always have the choice of how we respond/react. Remember - no one can make you angry/irritated without your consent. You don't actually have on/off buttons people can push – yes, there are triggers that you need to be aware of, but it is still yours to control!
“If you think that peace and happiness are somewhere else and you run after them, you will never arrive.” Thich Nhat Hanh
Can I step out of the ‘drama’ and see the big picture? Can I step away from my own frustration in this story and find empathy for this person that provokes this reaction from me?
We can NOT control another persons’ behaviour as much as we might like to. What you can control is YOUR reaction/response: do you dive into the drama and swim around until you are exhausted or do you choose to take care of yourself?
Make a daily commitment of: JUST FOR TODAY….I will think of this person/situation with kindness and empathy……just for today……I know that I do NOT know all the parts of this story…….just for today…… I choose peace….just for today!
