Further to my ‘rant’ last week, I came across this piece published some years ago. Author unknown.

· I walk down the street. There is a deep hole in the sidewalk. I fall in. I am lost. I am hopeless. It isn’t my fault. It takes forever to find a way out.

· I walk down the same street. There is a deep hole in the sidewalk. I pretend I don’t see it. I fall in again. I can’t believe I’m in the same place. But is isn’t my fault. I still take a long time to get out.

· I walk down the same street. There is a deep hole in the sidewalk. I see it there. I still fall in….it’s a habit. My eyes are open. I know where I am. It is my fault. I get out immediately.

· I walk down the same street. There is a deep hole in the sidewalk. I walk around it.

· I walk down another street.

When we realize that we are stuck in repetitive patterns and fall or stumble again and again with the same challenges, we are waking up. As we get out of the hole, we can become aware of ourselves and what and how we do what we do. Even if progress is painfully slow, we will emerge eventually even if we fall back in again. As we change we get out quicker and recover faster. Never give up on yourself!
