Unity brings Hope

On this Mandela day let us reflect on the principals he stood for and how we should each in our own capacity do our part to honour his legacy.

My heart swelled with pride to see how people of all cultures and class have stood together to face this crisis. In places people formed human chains with absolute determination to protect properties and business. Communities from all walks of life mobilized clean ups and organized secret clinics for chronic medication dispensing and food distribution. This feeling of unity and pride in my country as a people reminded me of the day we stood in line to vote in the first democratic election. Madiba must be crying and be broken hearted to see his people and his country being destroyed and plundered but also see that we are indeed a rainbow nation that stands shoulder to shoulder.

Choosing the path of Peace is a conscious decision we need to make individually. Fear is the most powerful human emotion. What are you choosing: Fear and Chaos or Peace and Progress despite the current turbulence?

The gift of CHAOS is the opportunity to create CHANGE. Gratitude is the way towards peace. Feeling fear is natural – awareness of and consciously changing your focus to gratitude brings inner calm so that you can see opportunity to participate and contribute towards change. Our country needs to change – we need to transition to unity and transparency for the greater good for all, and live in peace together free from fear.

A prayer written by Pastor Elke Carihill Lutheran Church Winterton

FOR YOU: OUR BEAUTIFUL RAINBOW!

South Africa – our Rainbow has been covered; Covered in a dark cloud of dust and smoke!

For now we cannot see you -

Your beautiful colours are barely visible, behind the different shades of darkness.

But know that behind the shades of darkness the colours are still there;

Behind the smoke and the rubble WE are there – A people of UBUNTU

A people of: ‘I am because you are’.

A people who reach out and care for their neighbour –

A people who rally together when hardship strikes –

A people who reach out with hands of compassion and kindness –

A people who laugh together and hold each other in grief –

A people who want a beautiful future for all!

For now we may seem hidden behind this dark cloud BUT we are still here – Yes – covered in dust and ashes Yes – standing midst rubble and a shattered existence; BUT WE ARE STILL HERE!

And when the dust and ash has settled –

We will rise, and we will clean and we will restore.

We will polish you – so that you can shine again; We will wipe away the remnants of dust that continue to cover you; We will put our heart and souls to work to restore the broken places on your bruised contours; We will rise with our hearts of UBUNTU – And we will courageously and peacefully work, Hand in Hand FOR YOU: OUR BEAUTIFUL RAINBOW.
