Dear Reader
Apologies for my long absence. Life….. and of course, may I join in blaming load shedding - Eischcom! Personal reveal – I have an absolute phobia of changing electronic devices. My laptop used to write my weekly articles (last one published first week of December 2022) is a dinosaur and has no battery life – hence…..no power/no writing. Anyway that is my story and I am sticking to it. Meanwhile I have taken the plunge, handed over my credit card and purchased this baby that is currently still giving me heart palpitations every time I brave the transition to Windows 11. All this without my wizard 18 year old to show me the “it is actually very simple Mom”…. Anyhooooooooo – I am back!
Acceptance (Part 1) ACCEPTANCE SURRENDER HARMONY
To start the process of Acceptance, we will need to go back to the Beginning of our Story of our Life So Far. To begin doing the work to find ACCEPTANCE requires making a choice and finding the courage within to talk about it. Some clients tell me deeply disturbing stories that shake the foundation of my belief that the human species leans more toward good than bad/evil.
In order to review our story objectively, we need to start at the beginning. We need to understand where we come from and how our environment influenced who we have become. The reward of doing ‘the work of acceptance’ is that we then get to choose who we are going to be in our life going forward.
Choosing to step out of the victim mentality enables me to tell my story. To overcome the shame and the fear of the power my story has over me, is the process of liberation and acceptance. This is what happened to me! This is the suffering I endured! This is the abuse I endured! Yet, I survived and I am here today to tell my story.
The process of acceptance is not a search of who is to blame or who needs to be punished. The process of acceptance is about empathy for self, not self-pity. Empathy for the person you were at the age you were – powerless and defenseless. You did not deserve this. You did not cause this. No person ever deserves to be physically or mentally or emotionally abused. Feel proud that you survived and that you are still here to tell your story.
You deserve to be free!
