Beyond the Grey

Waking up to a thick full cloud cover is not our African expected weather norm. Looking out of the window at the depressing heaviness of a grey-grey melancholic sky, I felt the remnants of 2020….
All around us we see evidence of the impact the lock down has had economically. Psychologically this pandemic has also had severe negative repercussions.
Stepping outside to fetch my car I noticed an opening in the clouds with a glimpse of blue sky. A breath taking play of sunlight and cloud movement mesmerized me and lifted my spirits.
One minute later the play of light had gone and the world returned to a grey mass of clouds. Our life stays our life – it depends on us what we choose to see and how much we invest in what we need emotionally and mentally.
Uncertainty is tough. Staying strong is exhausting. Signs and symptoms similar to PSTD seems to be a common struggle especially for our young adults who now have to face an uncertain future, as we try to go back to ‘normal’ in 2021.
Everything is constantly changing. A flexible view and a willingness to see what is behind the grey may bring the possibility of finding hope, despite the challenges.
We can’t change the past. A new perspective can change how we feel about the past and that can change our future.
