Digging for God (honouring my mother Engela Dedekind who turns 85 today!)

This time of year, most of us get the ‘green fingers’ inspiration.

To nurture seeds or seedlings, see them grow and eventually be rewarded with flowers or fruit/vegetables, is certainly worth-while.

My mother was always a gardening specialist/fanatic. She spent every possible moment in the garden. She landscaped a barren Highveld property into a virtual park. Retirement to the Bushveld she has systematically created another paradise. Finally she made her special greenfingers Engela mark in the retirement village they now live in. Plants are moved and grouped and re-planted and moved again. Each garden have the original traditional grounding stones that serve as bird baths.

Gardening, for her, was a therapy as well as a spiritual experience, where she explained to be that this is where she communes with God.

My father, having given up trying to understand this ‘addiction to gardening’, says my mother is not happy unless she is standing head down with her fingers in the soil “digging for God”.

Nature facilitates and enhances the closeness to all creation. Some people find it on long walks in the mountains or on the beach or at a special spot river fishing.

When last did you take off your shoes and feel the grass under your feet? When last did you dig into the soil with your bare hands? Make time to appreciate the Spirit of nature during this Spring 2021.

Make a commitment to yourself that this is the year of doing and not waiting.

NLP Life coaching is a talk therapy with a practical outcome approach, using the techniques of Modern Applied Psychology. When we understand ourselves, we can take responsibility for our part and make the necessary changes or find acceptance and inner peace.

Results will only be achieved if the desire to change is greater than the desire to stay the same. It all depends on you – waiting for other’s to change is futile.
