Finding the light in the darkness

The COVID fatigue that has set in is unchartered territory. Beginning of January 2020 it was far-far away in China and then came the hard lock soon after. It felt like I was trapped in a bad dream of dread and fear. Even grocery shopping was nerve wracking. Every cough or sneeze a mini panic attack: “have I caught it?” Slowly but surely we all learnt to live with and manage this new reality as there seems no end in sight just yet.

As if this was not enough anxiety fuel, we now face unrest all over the country! A new level of fear has gripped my heart. Will my elderly parents be safe? People are driving long distances. Wrong place at the wrong time…. We are all defenceless and easy targets.

Fear is toxic and can become all consuming. What do you do in tough situations like this?

We agreed around the lunch table today that what we have to consciously do in order to get through each day, is choose to spend energy on something you are working towards and something that is a real goal post. Planning constructively and actively working on a future goal takes us out of the fear/anxiety space.

We absolutely need to stay busy. Go to the gym. Bake a cake. Re-arrange your kitchen. Whatever it is that takes your mind off that which is currently entirely out of our control with under currents of much uncertainty. Now is the time for endurance! Hoist your breeches, fasten your seatbelt Dorothy – life as we knew it is going bye-bye and above all VASBYT!!

Life of Pie: “Everything will be alright in the end, if it is not, then it is not yet the end.”

Seeking help is not a weakness. It takes courage and strength of character to face yourself, let go of the past and choose to be happy.
