Living on Autopilot

Typically our daily routines are done unconsciously, especially if we do many things at the same time every day. However, living disconnected is the topic here today. Someone once described it as living in a constant daydream. In mental health it reflects a choice to not be present, and that can be for many different reasons. In some cases disconnection occurs during early childhood conditioning or traumatic experiences that require the individual to separate their feelings as a survival mechanism.
In this state, life passes us by unconsciously, as one day/week/year flows into the next. If we are unable to be aware/awake of what is happening around us, how will we be able to notice what is going on within us.
It is only when we see/feel/hear our own thoughts that we can make better choices. If you don’t like something change it – If you can’t change it – change the way you think about it. We intuitively know what we need and what is right or wrong for us. Yet, if we are sleepwalking through life, how can we make good decisions for ourselves and for those who depend on us.
Clients often talk about being ‘stuck’. Feeling like a failure does not mean you are a failure.
We all reach this place of apathy at times. It seems like too much effort to even try. We slide into bad habits, self-neglect and hopelessness. The way back up is one small step at a time. One small habit of self-discipline in ‘awake’ living practice every day.
Living unconsciously also means that we drift further and further away from our true self and from everyone around us. A tell-tale sign may be if we choose more and more to spend time alone rather than with our friends and family.
Life coaching is a talk therapy. Together we will formulate a practical approach for change that will work in your everyday life.
You already know how to reconnect to you inner guidance system and to trust yourself again – perhaps you just need a session to find your ‘refresh’ button!
