Sharing the joy whole-heartedly with a person who has the good fortune ofowning what we can only dream about, is an admirable trait and humbling towitness. Living in the joy of another persons' pleasure has been proven tobe very good for you! In German we call it 'Freude-Freude'. Energeticallyspeaking our mind does not know what is fact or imaginary, what is yours orwhat is another's', and the same endorphins are produced and released intoyour blood stream that strengthen your immune system and give you that feelgood feeling.
Envy on the other hand is the one eyed green monster that produces andreleases acid that attacks and weakens the immune system. It can be aboutthe perceived loss of something to another person that we feel cheated outof or feel entitled to or adopting the belief that you are a victim in life.
On another level of envy is the concept of 'Schaden Freude' - when a personderives pleasure from another persons' suffering or pain. There I wouldimagine you earn some extra acid release.
Awareness of how people/friends react to your good fortune or misfortune isreally telling.
If you needed sheltering and protection from the world - who will be therewrapping their jacket around you in stormy weather?
If you are carrying your candle and need extra hands to protect it from thewind blowing it out - who will be there without being asked to lend theirhands and cupping them around your candle.
Cultivating friendships that last a life time is about choosing individualswho can share your joy and sorrow and all the other ordinary days inbetween.
