A talk show topic on the radio raised the question: ‘what is your ultimate red flag’ when getting to know a person that decides whether you continue to pursue a relationship or not. A young man phoned in and his absolute no-no was women with mental health issues i.e. anxiety, depression and insecurity. Sounds like a life best lived on your own Mr Red Flag…
2020 tipped the scales in many a marriage to reveal reality that was previously avoided in the ‘normal’ busy lives we lived. For those who thought they had a handle on everything - nice and ordered and under control – the world moved to a slight tilt. Nothing is as it was before.
Life in general is uncertain – the war in Ukraine will have repercussions we have not grasped yet – THIS COUNTRY!!!!…. the mismanagement and corruption, (as our faces are rubbed in blatant thievery again with the KZN flood disaster) the load shedding and and and is enough to have us all on prescription meds!!
Basic coping life skills should be taught in schools so that we raise mental health awareness and provide support to developing minds. Instead, we throw young adults into the world to sink or swim and navigate life without a map or compass.
A fully functioning individual feels pleasure and pain, love and heartbreak, anxiety and bravery. A supportive environment can guide young minds to be open to experiencing everything that life has to offer – both good and bad and know that what they are feeling is normal. We cannot choose to be ignorant of unpleasant emotions. We need to be willing to let go of preconceived expectations of how life is supposed to be.
Awareness of mental health in general is vitally important. This requires self-regulation and self-care.
Life coaching is a practical outcome talk therapy using the techniques of Modern Applied Psychology.
