The Inner Voice

Research shows that our inner voice is created in early childhood by what we hear repeatedly from our primary caregivers. This influences our emotional experience of the world even as adults. Parents do the best that they know how with the tools that they have. No-one chooses to harm their children or raise them with the intention to set them up with challenges in life.
How aware are we as parents of this inner voice that we are creating for our children? Words are not the only ‘feed’. Our body language – our facial expression also play a vital role. Statistic show that the greatest lack today in raising healthy and balanced kids is: PRESENCE. We might be there physically but are we present or on our electronic devices or busy with other arbitrary chores? Our children need us to be fully present – really listening to them and really seeing them, so that they will know and believe in their value as human beings. Validation as a person, even if you are young, is vital to a healthy self-image and self-worth.
The highest value we have to give is our TIME. The most valued gift we have to give to our loved ones and especially to our children is our PRESENCE. Our eyes that say: “I see you” – our body language that says: “I hear you” – our time that says: “you are important”.
It is only when you are self-aware that you will notice the impact your presence or lack thereof has. Everyone does the best that they know how. When we know better, then we can do better. It is a choice that we have to make every day.
We are not able to give what we don’t have ourselves. What do you need to heal within yourself so that you can be the ‘Voice’ your children need to hear?
