The Year 2022

Making New Year’s resolutions has never been something I put time and effort into. However with this auspicious occasion I decided to make an exception. This year I will consciously and mindfully invest into the concept: to LOVE WITHOUT REASON.
Twenty years ago on the 1st of January 2002, on a deserted beach (besides the young children hiding in the bushes from a nearby village) we took our wedding vows. A simple and private little ceremony under the coconut trees, on powder white sand, next to a turquoise blue and clear warm ocean. Our dear friend Fitzy was supposed to have been with us as we renewed our vows on the 1/1/22. (COVID restrictions) Our daughter dreamed up the renewal of vows ceremony as a 20 year celebration.
In my research, as to what would be worthy of this occasion, I came across a Super Soul podcast Oprah did with Pastor A.R. Bernard. (Four things Women want from Men) I found the foundation of what I wanted to include in my vows not only to my husband but also as a commitment to myself.
In the beginning of marriage we consciously or unconsciously have a list of boxes that have to be ticked in order to make the decision to take the step of getting married.
This is Love with Conditions –
As the years went by….we slowly but surely worked through these CONDITIONS.
UNCONDITIONAL LOVE = Loving each other despite our short comings and imperfections as human beings.
What Pastor Bernard spoke about takes this concept to another level. To be able to love without reason is what we all need to aspire to. That is not unconditional love, it is simply just Love.
IT REALLY IS THE MASTERING OF LOVING YOUR SPOUSE FOR NO REASON AT ALL. WE NO LONGER NEED TO EXPLAIN WHY WE LOVE EACH OTHER – WE SIMPLY DO!
We all have challenges – some are grieving – some are in financial crisis – marriage/divorce – loneliness or illness. To work on our struggles and face what we need to, takes courage. As with marriage vows we need to make a commitment ourselves and to LIFE and then LIVE to the best of our ability.
May 2022 be a year of growth as an individual, as a marriage, as a family, as a community and country.
