The willingness to let go of any expectations you may have regarding how your life should be is to master the art of living mindfully. This word seems like a big and complex concept when in reality it is really simple yet not so simple to adhere to. Life lived in the now is a decision you have to make consciously many times every single day.

Emotionally we live in the past - Hope lives in the future – living in the NOW means that you are present in your physical body right now as that is the confirmation and the experience of being alive.

Being conscious of this present moment means we feel pleasure and pain, love and heartbreak, anxiety and bravely more intensely. As human beings we can’t choose to be ignorant of specific events as that would require numbing the unpleasant emotions and that then also numbs everything else. To feel truly alive we need to be willing to experience the entire spectrum of the human existence. Life is not for the faint hearted! It involves stretching, growing and embracing more and more of our potential. It means immersing oneself fully into the stream of Life.

We need to have an openness to the process of growing through experiencing Life every day and learn to accept the circumstances as they are, without needing them to be something different. The ability to step away from defensiveness, which can also be characterized and self-defence, in the form of righteous indignation or victimhood in order to avoid taking responsibility for our part in it.

Be gentle and compassionate with yourself. Own what you have become. Kindness to yourself is the first step to opening the door to living your true potential.
