Doubting that you are loved or believing that you are not worthy of love is something most of us can identify with or remember going through. Questioning if your parents, or one parent loved you, creates inner turmoil and low self-esteem and can also influence how we measure all love connections in life.
My belief is that the foundation of LOVE starts with our belief/faith or lack thereof, that we are loved unconditionally by our Creator. Knowing that you are loved and that you deserve to be loved is the challenge that we all need to master. Only then can we do The Work of learning to love ourselves unconditionally and then be able to love others and allow ourselves to be loved.
We can’t earn it by any means (deeds or practice), it is found in our faith and self-awareness, regardless of religion. It is something I know and something I trust and a choice that I make. We need to open our minds and our hearts and choose Love instead of fear.
My own faith/religion connection got lost in my early adult years with the hypocrisy I encountered everywhere. My re-connection with my faith came many years later after floundering around for years like an autumn leaf in the wind. I always knew that there was something missing in my life. No amount of travel or study or searching brought me any closer. There was a yearning within me for inner peace.
It was on a sailing boat, on a moonless night, anchored off one of the Whitsunday Islands on the east coast of Oz that I was filled with an inner knowingness. I felt like a tiny speck of dust in the vastness of that night sky yet an inner connection that is difficult to explain. I sensed the importance of being true to myself and the need to learn self-acceptance and self-love. Lying on that sailboat deck, I simply breathed in the magnificence, believing that the Creator of such spectacular constellations is also the Creator of me and the Creator of you.
