Whom do you need to forgive today

Synchronicity is like little unexpected gifts surprising me. Just when you needed it – that forwarded e-mail lands in your inbox, a Whatsapp arrives – or that article in a magazine seems to have been written just for you? Gifts of encouragement ‘delivered’ at exactly the right moment.

Watching an Oprah interview with Marianne Williamson spoke directly to me - synchronicity. It made perfect sense that our state of happiness is directly related to the level of forgiveness. If you feel any discomfort or discontent you need to ask yourself: whom do I need to forgive today?

Marianne Williamson is an amazing spiritual teacher who has written many books. She says that the ‘grudges’ you are ‘stuck’ with don’t just dissolve merely by thinking “I forgive you” – even if you mean it. She says you need to make a prayer commitment for 30 days. She teaches about the connection between forgiveness and the alchemy of prayer. The process of healing requires prayer and blessing FOR the perpetrator. Yes, you pray for the person who has hurt or wronged you!

When you hold a grudge or dwell on the past with bitterness – how does that feel in your body? For me it feels like a lump in my sternum, like indigestion. So who is suffering here?

The bottom line is: YOU CAN NOT HAVE BOTH grievance AND peace. Simply not possible! So which one do you choose? Do you really choose to suffer? Only one door can be open. As you open the door to suffering, the door to peace closes. As you forgive and close the door to suffering the door opens to let all those little miracles of synchronicity flow into your life!

So I ask you: Whom do you need to forgive today?

Forgiveness is a complete process – you can’t go half way or have any conditions. It is vitally important that you are able to forgive unconditionally. When you are unable to forgive you do not punish the person who has wronged you – you punish yourself, and you suffer. Anger, frustration, grudge, bitterness does not only effect every moment of your daily life – it will most certainly also affect your health.

I do believe in the balance of the universe. I believe if you hurt another person you will experience the same level of hurt sooner or later. We do not need to keep score or worry about payback - that is the universal law. Yet, this is not forgiveness.

I believe in the power of prayer – the alchemy of prayer. Either the person I am praying for will change or I will be able to let the situation and the person go through forgiveness. In this space of Grace I am free. Whom do you need to forgive today?
